the five basic colors of slime

featuring THIEF WIZARD infinitestartoad.blogspot.com.au

THIS IS NOT A GRAND UNIFIED THEORY OF SLIME

the faceless men of JU have a thousand and one denominations, each has its own theory of
slime; and all of them are wrong. All known theories of slimeomancy are wrong.

in any case we could hardly have a discussion of the principmes of slime without mention of
DANKNESS

what is DRY, is BRIGHT, is COLD; is ARID - we hate ARID, because arid is not good for
SLIME.

what we love is  DANK. is WET DARK WARM - DANK - thats what

the five basic colors of slime
all slimes are knowable by their color though some colors are unknowable, such as ULFIRE

RED
RED SLIME is gore, the stuff of mammals and ungulates, like your blood and your organs are
made of. A bath of blood is said to restore vigor. RED SLIME is food for us mammals. BILE
comes in many colors but all biles are truly RED.

ORANGE SLIME is amber, honey, treesap, waspwater, ambergris and ambrosisia, the
blood of insects, is ICHOR

GREEN
all plants want to be slime, but slime all slime travels down, and below a certain level no
plants grow, because anything that stays in one place for too long would fall victim to the
slime.
green slime is the basic slime of our grandfathers eats flesh eats metal. all slimes travel
down, and GREEN slime never grows above the ground.

BLUE
blue slime is electricity, bioluminescence,  - deep creatures and mushrooms in dwarven
tunnels and caves made of lava, feeds off the heat

PURPLE
ooze
the fabled color

STICKINESS
stickiness is considered by many slimeomancers a matter of art more than science.
not all slimes are sticky, but all stickiness is slimes.
stickiness is measured on the JU scale of 1 - JU
1 barely sticky
-
7 greatest observed stickiness [Harold, 1298]
-
JU JU JU JU JU JU JU

BONUS CONTENT: THE THREE FLAVORS
THERE ARE THREE ESSENTIAL flavors

- SALTINESS
- ACIDITY
- the SPECIAL flavor, called UMAMI

RICKWELL THE SLIMEOMANCER

coulda been a prince or something
rejected that in favor of slimes
more of a scientist than a wizard

ulfire slime
demonic slime

DO NOT GO TO WORLD 0

im gonna just ramble here a bit, i hope this is ok

im thinking about number spaces lately - basically im thinking about using 32bit addresses for things, and how big a number is 32bits. and then how i can use the 32-bit constraint to create a list of procedural (but finite) dungeons, or characters, or whatever.

(these images were made in icosa, an art program by andi mcc)

each 32 bit number corresponds to a single dungeon, a single character, a single whatever. a single text, where the space of all texts is defined, all bits are specified and all permutations are valid.
leviathan, as a book publisher, publishes all permutations of books.

ipv4 is 32bit - about 4 billion addresses - only this is a pretty small space, it only holds the whole internet
ipv4 is the same size space as rgba color: ffffffff is the same number as 255.255.255.255
if you let each octet be a different variable (each with 255 permutations), these variables together create the whole id
you can create a lot of different number spaces within this number space the same way a system architect subnets a network

color is a good example for 3d spaces because you can display it on the screen. 4d spaces are harder to display (you could use color + alpha but would that look right?). I've been thinking about the 4d space as a wheel of cubes, each cube tinted a different hue.
so, breaking down

 x     xx      y        yy    z        zz    a        aa
0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000
this is only one way to break down 32 bits
you could do it any way
index                             index
0000000000000000 0000000000000000

path                     path                     node
000000000000 000000000000 00000000

path                  page page  page page page
000000000000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000
any number of dimensions of any length so long as they define a 32 bit space (the space of these spaces is finite, and small)
what kind of data can be packed into a 32 bit space and still be totally defined?

for instance what books can be totally defined in this way?

im thinking - can you pack all the variables for a mystery novel into 32 bits, if so write a mystery novel as a set of permuations of possible mysteries based on those variables and then generate all of the books based on that pattern? then you'll have written 4 billion books. is this desirable? maybe you could include some kind of meta mystery that could only be glimpsed by reading many mysteries.
all things must be generated procedurally from 32 bit addresses.  no matter what the 32 bit input is, the program always displays something. those 32 bits should be totally defined by the program. such that whatever bits you feed it it still generates a valid permutation of the thing. all 32 bits are defined therefore all permutations are valid.
if every machine accepts a 32 bit number, interprets it and displays that permutation, what are the ramifications of that?
what if you put the number in the wrong machine, what if the machines feed into one another - all these datatypes we can create this way would collide and decay, and what kind of stories would that create?
one story i had was null, the void, is always scary, you never want to use the null state, you always throw that one away. the reason being that the void can leak through into this world if invoked

MANY NAMES OF ENTROPY

you're not supposed to say the names of the chaos gods but all the gods have many names and all of the names accumulate. saying the name may summon the god.

DEMOGORGON, baboon, mandrill, drinker, the walker, the demagog, the all-predator, Aamuel, Herediah, the child, the bane of souls, the lizard king, the dark lady.

ORCUS, Orus, the bone-lord, the prince of ghouls, the lord of unlife.

JU, Jubileth, Jubilex, Jubar, the king of slimes, the great defiler, the abyss. he is entropy. all eyes are the eyes of ju.

HASGUIL, the hog king of rats, the crown of claws, the nest of tails, the curse of frogs.

MASK BONUSES

you make a mask, a disguise depicting a specific person, for some purpose.

(similar idea for a videogame, where classes and races are masks, masks can be layered over one another. this would be core to the stealth and data-secrecy systems)

you are skilled at making and using disguises (+1)
you do the voice (+1)
the mask does not exist, they are an invention (+1)

the mask is of a person you know (+1)
you have made a study of the mask (+1)

the mask is of a person the target does not know (+1)
your target has not made a study of the mask (+1)

you and the mask share a class (+1)
you only carry things that suit the mask (+1)

CARRY LOTS OF ROPE

I feel bad for opening old wounds, but this probably matters. You should, as a guy, be able to carry a lot of rope (basically like a spelunky guy).
four ropes? preposterous

There's a lot of contention in the rpg community about how big is a 50 foot rope. It is contended that a 50 foot rope is a huge and bulky item, larger than a man can easily carry. I've hear tales of 50 foot ropes so large that two men could not carry one between them, so large that they blot out the sun and corrupt the minds of men.

Here's a 50 foot rope:
I bought it at the cheap stuff store near my house. it's actually a 15 meter rope so like 49-and-a-half feet. That shouldn't be a trouble, you can usually freefall half a foot without losing a hit point. In any case we shouldn't measure the length of rope in feet or even meters, we should measure it like this:

A small rope (ie 50 feet) is long enough to descend one STORY of STANDARD DUNGEON, and it'll be about as big as any other small item in your inventory, like a lantern or a dagger or whatever.
A long rope (taking up twice as much space in your inventory, like a shortsword) or two ropes haphazardly tied together, is long enough to descend one STORY of BASTARD DUNGEON, (ie when the descent is too deep for a standard rope).
Then on top of that you have different BASTARD descents determined by how many standard ropes you need.
Then you have BOTTOMLESS PITS, where rope isn't going to help at all.

The rope I have is cotton (ie not hemp or silk but i hope similar enough to not care about this), it came coiled like this and it's very light and compact. I could carry a bunch of them. It's cheap rope (i paid about 2 dollars, you could probably get something similar at a 2 dollar store near your house, i am kind of a poor person and this is not a luxurious purchase) so probably not the good stuff you want for rock climbing or sailing but it'll do in a pinch. Let's say for the sake of argument that it would fail one time in twenty. I dont know how it was made, I assume either extruded on some industrial rope loom or handwoven by some impoverished person in Bangeladesh, or both; but in a pre-industrial setting you should still probably be able to get a rope like this. It's the kind of thing a peasant could easily get access to.
